Mary Beth and I will be spreading the word about the Charlotte Award by presenting “Charlotte Picks” at every Albany City Area Reading Council meeting (See http://www.albany.edu/reading/acarc/acarc.html for details.) On Tuesday, October 14 we’ll have a display of books with “dramatic characters” to complement the presentation of the evening, “Making Stories Come Alive”, presented by Rich Chesser, director of the Steamer 10 Theater (See www.steamer10theatre.org/)
As I prepare for our book display I’ve been thinking about the many wonderful characters I’ve been introduced to in this year or so of Charlotte book reading. I just finished Tennyson (Blume) and that is full of intriguing characters. I’ve also enjoyed reading the Moxy Maxwell (Gifford) books; Moxy makes me laugh and reminds me of past students! And not to forget real characters like the young men featured in Steel Drumming at the Apollo (Marx), inspiring young men who are passionate musicians.
I wonder what characters you have connected to in your reading.
